The Price of Humanity - Fearful Expenses

We humans, we of

one

race,

we manage to divide and destroy ourselves from within.
Our incredible potential fights a chaotic, perpetual battle with our nearly inevitable desire for self-destruction.
The prices we pay that we need not are extreme...

The Israeli's and the Palestine's live in a constant state of war over a few square miles of dirt.

The UN sends "ambassadors of peace" to Iraq to find the weapons hidden there...weapons easily capable of killing hundreds of thousands if not millions of people.
Annually, several thousand people in the United States are killed by guns. Children are bringing guns to school out of fear, pride, need, loss.

Car accidents claim thousands more each year.

AIDS, thousands more.

I will not be angry if I die a death of natural causes, a death of genuine accident. But if I die at the hands of another, or due to someone else's negligence or lack of care, of respect, I will haunt them to the ends of the earth.

This concept of racial tension, it feels contrived. It is contrived. How can we, we of the human race, have racial tension? When we meet our first Martians, I may reconsider this concept. But it is null and void...what is accurate is cultural tension. I have the blood of many cultures coursing through my veins. I have DNA from only one race:
human.

 
Have you ever flown in to a major city's airport on a clear night? Next time you do, leave the shade up. Look down at the lights...that's what you notice first. As you get closer, make note of the first signs of the highways and waterways. Closer still, and you see the cars moving, moving, ever scurrying about, antlike.

Buildings take shape--skyscrapers reaching up, up.

And then there's the plane itself. Several hundred tons of steel and plastic...and it's flying.

It's FLYING.

Do you see what we humans have done? Can do? We are collectively a powerful race. We can lower the bill. Lessen the price of humanity, one step at a time. The savings, the lives not lost, will repay the investment a hundredfold. So.
